mm its catch up time. Sunday. Church. hahahhahahahhaa. oh WOW. probably the strangest experience to date. Put it this way, we need more conga lines led by the vicar at kea, and im hoping for a cheeky bit of limbo dancing mid-worship when i return. The pastor sends her car to pick everyone up in the morning. The car (although very very gratefully recieved - its a freaking long walk for someone as lazy and pathetic as myself) has 4 seats, a cracked and barely-there windscreen. We managed to get 7 of us plus baby kate into it yesterday morning. a triumph i like to think. Health and safety in Kenya is magical.
The speaker at the church was just...crazy... even the locals were confused... we sat through a good 2/3 hours of this man yelling (and im mean yelling at the top of his voice, through a very loud microphone) at us to take off our 'veils of vanity'.. or maybe buy veils of vanity. im not entirely sure. i dont even know where i'd get a veil of vanity. It was a brilliant experience all round - it was awesome to see our littlies jumping up and down and congaing at church... it was made even better by them all wearing a pair of those flip up lense sunglasses. coolest kids in Kitale. But try getting a 3 month old to sleep when someone keeps screaming "HALLELUJAH JESUS HALLELUJAH". poor child wet her nappy about 3 times in shock and I wasnt far behind.
As you can tell by the title, i have a rash on ma belly (just thought you'd all like to know.) I think im actually a bit obsessed with it. i feel the need to show everyone, including 'Teddy' our taxi driver. We're not entirely sure what it is, but they ensure me its not life threatening (not convinced) but i think its likely a reaction to the malaria tablets im taking. Which means im either at risk of malaria... or my skin burns and itches for the next month. Genuinely debating which i'd prefer. I would post a picture (because i know atleast some of the guys would find it as entertaining as i do) but i would probably lose a fair few friends. even my mother stopped loving me briefly when i showed her on skype. Mimi says it looks like a sea urchin is sucking my flesh. and she's kind of right. IT BURNS AND I FEEL VERY SORRY FOR MYSELF. please pray that my stomach will look a little less sea-urchinish within the next few days.

Kate and I
This morning I took Kate, Prince and Paul to the clinic with two of the staff here to get their vaccinations done, baby seth (Another staff member's newborn) came along too. This time we walked. All the way. Now im a lazy person at the best of times, let alone when i have a 4 month old strapped to my back, am falling down potholes every 2 minutes and am dying in the midday heat (the weather's finally decided to act like Africa here.) It was actually a really eye opening experience to visit the hospital... although its amazing that there is a hospital that provides decent medical care, its still far far below the quality of care that would be allowed in england - the waiting room wasnt far from a disneyland queue (which happens to be the biggest queue i've experienced in my life) and the whole hospital could have done with a decent scrub. The babies were angels considering i nearly fainted when they brought the needles out and it was all over in a few seconds, a quick scream and 3 sore thighs. The hospital itself was split into lots of departments.. most of which were completely inappropriately named - i spotted a 'Gender recovery unit' and 'eyebrow care centre' which was pretty intriguing. Waiting to go in was pretty awkward - I could feel a good 100 pairs of eyes staring my way and everyone wanted to shake hands. When i first came I didnt mind it - it was quite flattering that everyone wanted to say hello and introduce themselves. But after a week of feeling stalked its getting a bit tireseome. I know i shouldn't have been, but i felt quite uplifted today when one starer came over to shake my hand (after circling me and calling me 'white person, white person' for a good 5 minutes)... and kate had just been sick all over the very same palm. Hopefully next time he'll stick to a polite smile :)
Lots of love to you all, wish you were here and my rash wasn't xxxxxxxxx
